Der Inka-Trail nach Machu Picchu ist Teil eines ausgedehnten Pfadsystems mit mehr als 23.000 km Laenge, das das Reich Tahuantinsuyo (was "vier Regionen" bedeutet) durchzog. Es umfasste Kolumbien, Westbrasilien, Ecuador, Peru und Bolivien, sowie Zentralchile und Nordargentinien. Diese Pfade verliefen meist an der Kueste oder in den Bergen, teilweise erreichten sie den Rand des tropischen Regenwaldes...
