Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek


This is a great adventure! You will cross the most amazing landscapes of the Andes and you will see an extremely pretty landscape with mountains. Besides that you are going to experience some different habitats and surroundings, such as mountain peaks covered with snow and you will enjoy the rainforest.


  1. Day 1
    We leave Cusco by car at 6:00 AM to Mollepata (Cruz Pata), where we have breakfast. From here we go to Challacancha, to have lunch. We continue our trip to Salcantaypampa (situated 3800 meters above sea level), where we will spend the night at the bottom of Nevado de Salkantay.

    This day we will walk about 4 hours and enjoy the pretty view at Nevado de Umantay and a part of Nevado de Salkantay.
  2. Day 2
    At 7:00 AM we will have breakfast. After that we will go to the pass Salkantay, where we have a beautiful view of Vilcabamba valley and the mountain ranges of Padreoc, Pumasillo, Wayracmachay (4600 meters above sea level). Then we will arrive at the Inca Trail, which comes from, and goes to Choquekirao Cusco. After that we will go down to Ichupata to have lunch. We will continue to Wayracmachay, where we will stay at the bottom of Nevado Umantay (4120 meters above sea level). This day we will walk about 5 hours.
  3. Day 3
    At 8:00 AM we will have breakfast. This day we continue our journey to Rayanpata, a little down surrounded by beautiful nature. After that we will have lunch in Ccollpapampa and we will visit the hot springs. These are baths of healing water, that arise from the earth, such as an iceberg. In this place we will take a look at the archaeological remains of Platerayoc. We will spend the afternoon here to relax and enjoy the nature. Last we will return to Ccollpapampa for dinner and to spend the night. We will walk this day about 3 hours.
  4. Day 4
    At 7:00 AM we have breakfast and after that we will start our journey to Miskabamba Beach. During this trip we will visit the Pacche waterfalls. There are 11 different kind of falls, with a height of about 50 meters. We will have lunch in Miskabamba. There is a hot climate over here and in contrast to other areas with the same climate, they have an agricultural production of typical pomegranate trees. After lunch we will continue our trip to Vaqueria Llacatapata, which is a archeological site of the Incas, what probably was a checkpoint at the entrance to Machu Picchu. From here you can see Machu Picchu. We will camp at Llactapata where you have a magical view at Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and Salkantay. In this day we will walk about 8 hours.
  5. Day 5
    At 6:30 AM we will have breakfast. After that we will go to Puente Ruinas, where we take the bus to Machu Picchu. Here we have about 3 hours to visit Machu Picchu and to have lunch. Last we will get back to Cusco by train.
